Zoological Garden Hof

Experience animals up close

Small but mighty - that's the Hof Zoological Garden. We can't boast lions, giraffes, rhinoceroses and the like. But you can experience many animals up close in the only zoo in Upper Franconia. And this is what makes it an ideal destination for the whole family. In addition, it is located directly at the Bürgerpark Theresienstein and in the immediate vicinity of the Botanical Garden, it is easily accessible by car or on foot. Discover about one hundred animal species from all continents and spend interesting and educational hours.

By the way, one resident of the Hof Zoo has a "weighty" name: Turtle "Friedrich" was named after its animal godfather, former Vice President of the Bundestag Hans-Peter Friedrich. Would you like to meet Mr. Friedrich in person? Then go to the Hof Zoo.

Up close and personal with kangaroo and cockatoo

In keeping with the motto "Discover right in the middle of it," many of the enclosures at Hof Zoo are designed to be walk-in. For example, you will be greeted by Australian Bennett's kangaroos right at the entrance. Pass through the enclosure of the cute hoppers to reach the large free-flight aviary, where you can stroll around among colorful birds - including up-close photos without disturbing bars. In the savannah house you can watch white-tufted monkeys doing gymnastics. And for children, the spacious petting enclosure with the opportunity to experience animals up close is always one of the highlights of any visit to the zoo.

Zoo as a place of learning

At the Hof Zoo, there are not only many animals to marvel at, but also a lot to learn about them and their environment. The zoo school with its own zoo educator teaches kindergarten and school children about the animal world, and in the Savannah House you can learn more about the sustainable and resource-saving concept of aquaponics. Also on the grounds of the zoo is the Geological Garden of the city of Hof. Here you can learn about the formation and properties of the region's rocks. The Hof Zoological Garden has a lot to offer.
