Earth Night 2025

Hof sets an example against light pollution

The next Earth Night will take place on Friday, 19 September 2025. From nightfall - from 10 p.m. at the latest - everyone is called upon to reduce or switch off outdoor lighting for an entire night.
Mayor Eva Döhla: "Earth Night shows us that darkness is not a void, but a habitat. Every time we switch off a spotlight, we preserve a piece of nature and set an example for a more responsible use of light."
The aim of this campaign is to draw attention to the consequences of light pollution: too much artificial light at night harms the environment, nature and people. It irritates migratory birds, disturbs sleep and contributes to the mass extinction of insects. In addition, unnecessary outside light is a waste of energy and pollutes the climate.
In contrast to Earth Hour, which takes place for one hour every year in March, Earth Night aims to deliberately keep the entire night dark. The aim is to experience how valuable natural darkness is - and how easy it is to make a sustainable contribution to protecting the environment.
The city of Hof is calling on all citizens to take part in the campaign. Everyone can take part - whether by switching off outdoor lighting, darkening shop windows or using light more consciously in everyday life.
