Climate protection in Hof
The city of Hof hired a climate protection manager back in 2019. She played a key role in the creation of the climate protection concept and coordinated all relevant tasks within the administration and the involvement of external stakeholders. All relevant local groups were involved in the creation process. Citizen participation was and still is expressly desired! The creation of the concept was funded by the municipal guideline.
A second climate protection manager was hired to implement the measures. The measures described in the climate protection concept are now being implemented.
Climate adaptation in Hof
The consequences of climate change pose a high potential risk to human well-being. In the city of Hof, too, extreme weather events will occur with increasing frequency and intensity in the future. To protect the population, especially vulnerable groups such as children and senior citizens, to preserve biodiversity and to prevent future damage, the city council has decided to draw up a climate adaptation concept and apply for corresponding funding.
As a result, the city has obtained 90% funding for "ANK-DAS-A.1: Creation of a concept for sustainable climate adaptation and natural climate protection for the district-free city of Hof", with the funding code 67DAAN0751. The federal government is funding an overall package: a climate adaptation manager, newly appointed in May 2025, is drawing up the climate adaptation concept and coordinating all tasks in this area.
The concept is based on an analysis of the effects of climate change on the city of Hof. Concrete measures for climate adaptation are to be defined with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders and interested Hof citizens. Individual measures can already be tackled during the two-year funding period.

Climate protection needs a contact person
The city of Hof employs two climate protection managers. Their tasks are to manage the implementation of the climate protection concept and to coordinate processes within the administration. As we value the involvement of all groups involved, they are also the link between the municipal administration and external stakeholders on site. The citizens of Hof can also contribute ideas and suggestions.

Citizen participation desired
During the process, we will keep you informed about the current status of the implementation of the climate protection concept. At the same time, you have the opportunity to actively participate and send us your suggestions, proposals, ideas or questions.

European Energy Award
The European Energy Award (eea) is a quality management system and certification procedure for municipal energy efficiency and climate protection.
As a result of the City of Hof's decision to participate in the European Energy Award, our energy and climate protection projects and other activities in these areas are evaluated by an external assessor. This will strengthen processes and structures for the successful implementation of climate protection projects, as well as uncovering weaknesses and identifying potential for improvement.
For the implementation of the European Energy Award, the measures are divided into six fields of action. These are: Development planning and regional planning, municipal buildings and facilities, supply and disposal, mobility, internal organization and communication and cooperation.
Participation in the eea is 90% funded via the "Climate Protection in Municipalities" funding priority in the Bavarian climate protection program in accordance with the Municipal Climate Protection Funding Guideline (KommKlimaFöR).
