Beer festival with Wärschtlamo birthday party
The Hof Beautification Association is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: its foundation on 6 September 1875 by town planning officer Gottlob Thomas. The 150th anniversary of the association is an occasion to celebrate in style. "We not only want to celebrate our anniversary with a beer festival, but also to remember a beautiful, almost forgotten tradition and revive it for a weekend," says association chairwoman Martina Tögel. The Verschönerungsverein cordially invites everyone to its anniversary beer festival at the labyrinth in Theresienstein.
Programme
Saturday, 6 September 2025, from 1 pm:
Beer festival for the 150th anniversary of the association and 154th Wärschtlamo birthday
Welcome by Lord Mayor Eva Döhla
Sunday, 7 September 2025, from 10 am:
Ecumenical church service & veal sausage breakfast
A tradition is revived
A special highlight: The Hof breweries Meinel and Scherdel are releasing a beer with a special limited edition label especially for the anniversary. In addition, 150 anniversary beer mugs will be offered for sale to benefit the association - real collector's items for enthusiasts and supporters. Visitors can look forward to freshly grilled sausages, steaks and vegetarian wraps. The zoo café will provide a sweet treat with coffee and cake.
Historically, the association can look back on a long tradition of beer festivals at the labyrinth. For many decades, these festivals were an integral part of social life in Hof - recognisable by the hoisted flags, which signalled to the people of Hof that the labyrinth was being used for hospitality at the weekend. These festivals have not been held for many years. Now the Verschönerungsverein would like to revive this old tradition.
The Wärschtlamo turns 154
At the same time, the Wärschtlamo's birthday will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 pm. This includes the ceremonial awarding of the "Golden Hofer Wärschtlamo", which honours a person who has made a special contribution to the Hofer pleasure craft. This is followed by delicious anniversary Wärscht from the steaming brass kettle.
The festive programme continues on Sunday: an ecumenical open-air church service begins at 10 a.m. at the labyrinth, followed by a convivial Weißwurst breakfast. For those who prefer something sweet, there will be coffee and cake from the Zoocafé.
