Young people shape the future

Young people from Hof take part

Involving children and young people in urban development means: creativity, inspiration, concreteness. The city of Hof attaches great importance to hearing the voices of young people in its development projects. For example, children and young people have recently been involved in separate events on several occasions. This should continue. Over the next few months, there will continue to be opportunities and events aimed specifically at young people. This page will give you an initial insight.

New momentum with the 'Pioneers of tomorrow'

Young people design their station district

In a joint project between the city of Hof, the Youth Migration Service in the district of the Caritas Association of the City and District of Hof and the EIBA in the Hof Deanery, young people from the station district were asked how they would like to be involved. This resulted in the 'Pioneers of Tomorrow', who have been enriching the Bahnhofsviertel with a variety of activities ever since.

Brainstorming and actions

The event kicked off on April 3, 2023, when the young pioneers held a one-day workshop to come up with ideas on how to get young people from the station district interested in participating. It quickly became clear that it should be an event with impact. The group organized the "Laserbeats" event in Wittelsbacher Park, which was attended by around 350 Hofer residents. The young people from the station district were able to contribute their ideas in three workshops. This created the basis for further projects that the 'Pioneers of Tomorrow' have since implemented:

  • Open-air cinema with the movie "Fast & Furious 10"
  • "Open stage" for young talents followed by a salsa course
  • Beautification of the railroad underpass with colorful graffiti
  • Participation in World Children's Day with a candy bar and a giant slide
  • Future workshop with Eva Döhla and Dr. Burkhard Baier
  • Trip to Heidpark Soltau
  • Youth disco: "Pioneers of Tomorrow - Utopia: Dance the Future, Celebrate the Now!"
  • Construction of a calisthenics facility on the station forecourt

Many of the concerns and ideas are currently being further developed and promoted. For example, a lot has recently been done on the station forecourt: in line with the wishes of the 'Pioneers of Tomorrow', a calisthenics facility has been built here. And the desired apple tree, to enrich biodiversity, will also find its future location here at the end of the week. The facility will be inaugurated by Mayor Eva Döhla and the Pioneers of Tomorrow on Thursday, December 21 at 4.30 pm on the station forecourt.

But the Pioneers themselves also want to get involved and make their station district a cleaner and more sustainable place through campaigns in 2024, e.g. by planting flowers in Wittelsbacherpark or collecting garbage.
