Eger (Tschechische Republik)
Twin town relationships Hof-Eger
In the course of the eastward expansion of the EU, relationships between Germany and towns in the Czech Republic were started. The twinning of Hof and Eger (Cheb) was sealed on 27th January 2004.
The millennial town Eger (one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic) is located only 50 km (31 miles) away from Hof and is also the gate to the world-famous spa triangle of Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary), Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně) and Franzensbad (Františkovy Lázně). Eger has a historic town center which is landmarked and many sights like the Franciscan monastery or the castle.
The restored inner city of Cheb
Among the previous twin town activities that took place were the participation of the Eger Theater in the Bavarian Theatertage in 2003 in Hof namely with their guest performance “the bang”. At the beginning of 2003 a mutual exhibition “Cheb and Hof – in the years around 1900 and in the year 2002” was shown both in Hof and in Eger.
The Eger St. Nikolauskirche
The absolute highlight of this relatively new relationship was a German-Czech cultural festival in 2009 for which groups artists from both towns each arranged a culture weekend in the respective town. The program included theater, exhibitions, concerts and brass-band music as well as medieval knights’ tournaments.
Tower of the Eger castle
By now there are regular two-way visits on various occasions like the “Schlappentag” in Hof or the “Wallenstein-festival” in Eger.
