Cheb (Czech Republic) - handshake with the old imperial city - since 2004
In the course of the eastward enlargement of the European Union, partnerships with cities in the Czech Republic were also established in Germany for the first time. The partnership between Hof and Cheb was sealed on January 27, 2004.
The thousand-year-old town of Cheb (and thus one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic) is located barely 50 kilometers from Hof and is the gateway to the world-famous spa triangle of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně. Cheb has a historic town center, which is a protected monument, and many other sights, such as the Franciscan monastery or Cheb Castle.
Among the previous partnership actions was also the participation of the Cheb Theater in the Bavarian Theater Days 2003 in Hof, namely with the guest performance "The Bang". At the beginning of 2003 a joint exhibition entitled "Cheb and Hof - in the years around 1900 and in 2002" was shown in Hof and in Cheb.
The absolute highlight of the still young relationship, however, was a German-Czech cultural festival in 2009, when artists from both cities each organized a cultural weekend in the other city. The offerings ranged from theater to exhibitions, concerts and brass band music to medieval knight fights.
In the meantime, there are regular reciprocal visits on various occasions, such as the "Schlappentag" in Hof or the "Wallenstein Festival" in Eger.
