Remembering flight and expulsion
On Saturday, 20 September 2025, the displaced persons in the Hofer Land region traditionally celebrate the "Day of Homeland". This local day of remembrance commemorates the victims of flight and expulsion as a result of the Second World War. The focus is on remembering the millions of Germans who had to leave their homeland at that time, but also on raising awareness of the consequences of war, violence and displacement right up to the present day.
The city of Hof honours the significance of the day with its participation and sends a signal of respect for the fates of the displaced persons. All municipal buildings are flagged for the occasion.
