City of Hof thanks extra radio

Decades of journalistic work and commitment to the region

It is with great regret that the city of Hof has received the news that the station is to cease broadcasting. For decades, the station was an integral part of the regional media landscape and more than just a source of information. Extra Radio created identity, gave the region and its actors a voice and brought many people closer to their homeland on a daily basis.

"The loss of extra radio is a noticeable turning point for our city," explains Mayor Eva Döhla. "The station not only did pioneering work for local journalism, but also enabled journalistic diversity. Especially now, when plurality in reporting is one of the cornerstones of our democracy, including directly on site. For me, extra radio was familiar from day one. There was always a good connection to the city and the city of Hof. I would like to sincerely thank the founders and the entire team for this," continued Döhla.

A valuable component of the regional media landscape is being lost. It is the consequence of an unbalanced media policy development that stations such as extra radio, in contrast to programme providers from large conurbations, did not have the same structural and economic opportunities.

"The entire team has fought for the station for years. I have great respect for the commitment of the editorial team, who have stood up for independent, local radio for decades," concludes Eva Döhla.
