Bořivoj Hořínek
Photographer from Ostrov - Photographer on the island*
Bořivoj Hořínek is a Czech artist. His medium is photography. Hof's Head of Cultural Affairs, Peter Nürmberger, has invited him to present his work in the Freiheitshalle: "He works conceptually and performatively. His view of the world is characterized by the desire to recognize a structure or to give it one. The pedagogical approach is unmistakable and aesthetically convincing." Bořivoj Hořínek (born 1948) is a contemporary of the Stalinist era, the Prague Spring and the Velvet Revolution. He sought out contacts in other Western European countries before 1989 and still maintains them today. This also coincides with the efforts of the Hof Cultural Office to promote international cooperation, particularly with its neighbors in the Karlovy Vary region. An essential aspect of his photographic work has a performative character. He also creates large-format images in the style of shadography at events in which the audience participates and witnesses the creative process from exposure to fixation. Nürmberger recognizes that Hořínek's artistic path establishes references to international art events and art history despite the border that separated them for many years - without exhibiting them. He thus becomes a solitaire.
*Ostrov is his home town and also the Czech word for island.
