YouthArtTriennial 2024
Winning works from the JugendKunstTriennale 2024 now on show in Chemnitz
In 2024, the major exhibition of the YouthArtTriennial of the Saxon-Bavarian City Network took place in Hof. The prizewinners from that time can now be seen in Chemnitz. In the Alte Dreherei of the Garage Campus, the exhibition now forms a contribution to the Capital of Culture year in the Saxon city. It had previously travelled through the other cities in the city network and was invited to make a detour to the second European Capital of Culture, Nova Gorica in Slovenia.
Speaking at the opening in Chemnitz was the Mayor of Culture, Dagmar Ruscheinsky, and Peter Nürmberger, former head of the cultural department in Hof, who has been in charge of the art project for young people from the first exhibition in 1998 to the present day. He gave the numerous attendees an overview of the origins and development of this exhibition concept, which started 27 years ago in Hof and is the most important and successful project linking the cities of Bayreuth, Hof, Marktredwitz, Plauen, Zwickau and Chemnitz. With numerous details and one or two anecdotes, he was able to document the problems as well as the success of the co-operation in a knowledgeable manner. The jury's work of selecting a good hundred entries from several hundred and choosing the prizewinners was just as much a topic of discussion as their composition with artists, teachers or people with an affinity for art for other reasons. "The mix has to be right," Nürmberger concludes, stating the basic principle: "The judgement should be based on artistic criteria. This must be done very strictly, because it is not a youth or social project, or even a regional proportionality would have to be observed." Like the work of the jury, the cooperation in the cultural working group of the city network also corresponds to the basic idea that is also laid out in the concept of the Capital of Culture year, says Nürmberger: "Cooperation, togetherness, not excluding anyone, culture for everyone, that's what matters."
The exhibition is open at Garagen-Campus, Zwickauer Straße 164, 09116 Chemnitz, until 7 September 2025 at the following times:
Monday 9 am - 4 pm, Tuesday 9 am - 6 pm, Thursday 9 am - 4 pm, Friday 9 am - 5 pm, Saturday during guided tours 11 am - 2 pm.
