Training grants include funding from the federal government and the state of Bavaria, which can be claimed as a grant and/or loan as part of the so-called Schüler-BAföG or Aufstiegs-BAföG.
You can submit your application online via the links BAföG Digital, AFBG-Digital. Under "Application", you can also find out which training assistance office is responsible for you depending on your training requirements and place of training.

Educational support for pupils (BAföG)
The aim is to give every young person the opportunity to complete an education that matches their abilities and interests, regardless of their social and economic situation. Whether the desired training programme can be funded under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) depends on three factors: The training must be eligible for funding, the personal eligibility requirements must be met and the training requirements must not be covered by the student's own income and assets or those of their spouse or parents.
Funding for pupils is provided in the form of grants. The amount of funding depends on the type of education and accommodation. Whether the full amount of funding or only partial funding is calculated depends on the income and assets of the student and the income of the spouse or parents.
The application should be submitted in good time, but no earlier than 3 months before the start of the school year, as funding is only possible from the month of application at the earliest and requires a certain lead time.

Upgrading training grant (AFBG)
The Upgrading Training Assistance Act (Aufstiegsfortbildungsförderungsgesetz - AFBG) aims to provide financial support to participants in vocational upgrading training programmes and to encourage them to set up their own businesses. The Act is a comprehensive funding instrument for further vocational training in all professional areas, regardless of the form in which it is carried out (full-time / part-time / school-based / extracurricular / media-based / distance learning).
Tradespeople and other skilled workers who are preparing for further training to become educators, master craftspeople or industrial foremen, technicians, business administrators, specialised nurses, IT specialists, programmers or business administrators are eligible to apply. The prerequisite is a completed initial training recognised under the Vocational Training Act (BBiG) or the Crafts Code (HwO) or a comparable vocational qualification.
Funding is available for training programmes that specifically prepare students for examinations under public law in accordance with the Crafts Code, the Vocational Training Act or equivalent qualifications under federal or state law and are certified. In addition, further training in the healthcare and nursing professions in accordance with the guidelines of the German Hospital Association and further training on the basis of state-approved examination regulations at recognised supplementary schools are also eligible for funding. However, if the participants already receive benefits on the basis of other laws, such as BAföG or the Labour Promotion Act (AFG), funding under the AFBG is excluded in whole or in part.
Funding with maintenance contributions should be applied for in good time, but no earlier than 3 months before the start of the programme, as funding is only possible from the month of application at the earliest. You can still apply for funding up to the last day of classes.
You can find more information, in particular on the amount of the monthly maintenance contribution for full-time programmes and the income and asset-independent funding for full-time and part-time programmes, via the link Aufstiegs-BAföG.
