Apply for a Verbundpass for the coming school year

The new school year is just around the corner. Those responsible for school transport in the city and district of Hof would therefore like to remind you once again to apply for the Verbundpass for the coming school year 2025/26, if you have not already done so.
For eligible pupils who use public transport to get to school, the €365 ticket will be issued again in the coming school year. The necessary public transport pass must be applied for independently from Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg (VGN) via the school portal "VGNsmaxi" (https://smaxi.vgn.de). The tokens are issued by the school at the beginning of the school year.
As has now been announced, this year there is a goodwill arrangement until 30 September 2025 for eligible pupils who have not yet applied for or received a token sheet. During the goodwill period, it is sufficient to carry the network pass when using public transport on the way to school within the VGN network area.
Information on how to apply
The Verbundpass is always valid for one year and must then be downloaded or applied for again. Parents and pupils are therefore advised to check the expiry date of their current travelcard in good time and to apply for a new travelcard if necessary.
The following applies to the application:
- The application can be submitted free of charge via the new school portal "VGNsmaxi". Click here to register: smaxi.vgn.de
- After the age of 15, a school certificate is required, which can be easily uploaded via the portal at www.vgn.de/media/nachweisformular-ausbildung.pdf. The school certificate must be confirmed by the school. Alternatively, you can also submit your own school certificate from the school.
- Once the application has been successfully submitted, you can print out the Verbundpass and attach it to the issued token.
Under certain conditions, the previous Verbundpass is automatically extended if the old Verbundpass has already been applied for via "VGNsmaxi". The following conditions must be met:
- The child is under 15 years old
- The child is in the 10th grade at the most
- There is no change of educational programme
If these requirements are met, the Verbundpass is automatically renewed for the next school year and can be downloaded and printed from "VGNsmaxi" (https://smaxi.vgn.de) (under "My applications" in the "Checked" tab). This is available from 60 days before the start of school. If one of the above conditions is not met, a new application must be submitted for the next school year.
