Property owners have a duty
Snow and ice must not be shovelled onto the road or even spread over the entire carriageway just to clear the pavement. The cleared snow or ice residue must be stored next to the pavement, which must also be secured, in such a way that traffic is not endangered or impeded.
Property owners are obliged to clear the pavement. The municipal public order service monitors compliance with the obligation to clear pavements and can impose a fine for offences. If persons or property are injured due to a lack of or insufficient clearing, this can result in considerable civil claims for damages and compensation.
To ensure safety even during snowfall, snow should be removed from the pavement wherever possible and stored on your own property until it thaws again.
