Current information

New corona test regulation as of 30.06.2022

As of June 30, 2022, a new version of the Coronavirus Testing Ordinance will apply in Germany. According to this, corona rapid tests will no longer be free of charge for all citizens with immediate effect.

The following groups of people are still entitled to free citizen tests:

  • Children under the age of 5, i.e. up to their fifth birthday.
  • Persons who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, including pregnant women in their first trimester
  • Individuals who are participating in clinical trials of coronavirus vaccine efficacy at the time of testing
  • Persons for whom testing is required to end quarantine ("free testing")
  • Visitors and persons receiving treatment or residents in inpatient or outpatient nursing and health care facilities
  • Beneficiaries who employ persons within the framework of a personal budget according to § 29 SGB IX, as well as persons who are employed by beneficiaries within the framework of a personal budget
  • Caring relatives
  • Household members of demonstrably infected persons

Employees of nursing homes and hospitals continue to take their tests at the facilities.

Likewise, persons who have a positive rapid test or self-test, as well as persons with prior residence in a virus variant area or in the event of an outbreak in vulnerable facilities, continue to receive a free PCR test (e.g., at the Local Testing Stations in Hof and Münchberg).

What evidence is required for free testing?

Anyone wishing to take advantage of free testing must provide identification and proof: For infants, this is the birth certificate or children's passport, and for pregnant women, the maternity passport. Anyone who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons must present an original medical certificate to this effect. Participants in vaccine efficacy studies can obtain proof of participation from the persons responsible for the studies and present it. Those wishing to be exempted must present the PCR test. The same applies to household members of infected persons, who also require proof of a matching residential address. For visits to nursing homes or hospitals, a free test can be taken on site or the visit can be made credible to the testing center (sample form as PDF: https://www.bundesgesundheitsministerium.de/fileadmin/Dateien/3_Downloads/T/Testverordnung/Formblatt-Pflegeeinrichtungen.pdf). Family caregivers must provide credible evidence that they are caring for a relative in need of care.

The following citizens are entitled to a citizens' test for a contribution of 3 €:

In the case of so-called risk exposure (e.g. indoor events, concerts, theaters, weddings, etc.), people who want to be tested must now pay a €3 contribution to the citizen test.

This applies to the following groups of people:

  • People who will be attending an indoor event on the same day or will have contact with a person 60 years of age or older or a person with a pre-existing condition with a high risk of contracting severe COVID-19 on the same day
  • Individuals who have received an "elevated risk" status warning through the Robert Koch Institute's Corona Warning app

It is also necessary to prove eligibility for the citizen tests with a co-payment of three euros. This can be done, for example, with an admission ticket to an event, by showing the Corona warning app or, in the case of contacts with high-risk patients, with a self-disclosure.

Please note: Only completely free testing is offered at the local testing stations and thus no testing with a co-payment. This also applies to the central testing station in Hof and the branch office in Münchberg. Please inquire with the private providers whether they offer tests with a co-payment.

Symptomatic patients should go to the doctor and get tested there.

Positive PCR test?

Persons who have themselves tested for the coronavirus by means of a PCR test will from now on be informed by the health department for the city and district of Hof directly on site at the test site as well as at the physicians in private practice about what to do in the event of an infection. The information is provided by means of an information letter.

In concrete terms, the new procedure means:

If a PCR test is positive, the health department no longer needs to be contacted by telephone to order the isolation of the person who has tested positive. Instead, the information letter that everyone who is PCR-tested receives at the test site contains all relevant rules of conduct in the event of a positive PCR test, instructions and details on isolation, as well as information on further contact tracing. Of course, the staff is still available by telephone for any queries.

Exemptions

For quarantine release of contacts

The quarantine regulations applicable in Bavaria for contact persons of Corona infected persons have now been adapted to the decision of the Conference of Minister Presidents. Therefore, the health department for the city and district of Hof informs:According to the amended general decree "Quarantine of contact persons and of suspected persons, isolation of persons tested positive for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (AV Isolation)", the following persons who have been classified as close contacts are exempt from the quarantine obligation with immediate effect:

  1. Close contacts who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have received a booster vaccination ("Boostered"),
  2. close contacts who have recovered from COVID-19 disease confirmed by nucleic acid test (PCR test) and have been fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 disease confirmed by nucleic acid test following full vaccination,
  3. Close contacts who have been fully vaccinated by two doses of vaccine, if the second vaccination was at least 15 days and not more than 90 days ago ("newly vaccinated"); and
  4. close contacts who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by nucleic acid testing (PCR testing) if the underlying testing was at least 28 days and no more than 90 days ago ("newly recovered").

This applies in the future, but particularly affects individuals who were in quarantine on Jan. 15, 2022, and meet one of the above criteria.

Important

Those contact persons to whom one of the four above-mentioned exemption criteria applies do not have to wait for a contact by the Health Department for the City and County of Hof for the quarantine exemption. They will no longer be notified separately.

Changed quarantine time

If a letter about the changed quarantine time is needed, please notify the health department at:
