Hofer Land care control centre

Open day

As part of Bavarian Dementia Week 2025, the Hofer Land Care Centre hosted an open day. Dr Christine Schwendner from the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care and Prevention emphasised in her opening speech: "The lighthouse project that you have created here radiates far beyond the borders of the Hofer Land region. You are doing valuable work."

Under the motto "Dementia has many enemies", the focus was on prevention, exercise and joie de vivre. Visitors took the opportunity to have their blood pressure, blood sugar and hearing tested, received tips on nutrition and exercise and were able to take part in simple exercises. Practical aids for everyday life with dementia as well as memory boxes were also presented and provided for a lively exchange. The programme made it clear how important prevention, activity and mindfulness are for the body, mind and hearing. Of course, the guests were once again able to enjoy coffee, sweets and hot viennoiseries from Hofer Wärschtlamo.

"The Care Centre connects people with worries and needs, provides support, shows ways forward and brings people together who need support but can also give it," says Alexandra Puchta, Head of the Hofer Land Care Centre.

Hof's Mayor Angela Bier and District Administrator Dr Oliver Bär were delighted with the joint project, which has been very well received in society: "We can be a support - with people in the team who are directly helping with great commitment, but also raising awareness in society for a special approach to older people and the topic of dementia. We want them all to know: We are here for you."

As a central point of contact, the Hofer Land Care Centre has not only been offering advice on all questions relating to care since autumn 2022, but also connects specialist agencies, local authorities, facilities, volunteers and citizens in the Hofer Land region. The open day once again showed how important it is to bring the topic of dementia to the centre of society, to break down fears of contact and to sensitise people to prevention.
