Public transport (ÖPNV)

Buses, transport connection E-mobility

The public transport in the city area of Hof is covered by HofBus GmbH, which is part of Stadtwerke Hof. There are 27 modern buses on 12 routes. Fast, secure and free Internet access (WLAN) is available to passengers on all buses. In addition to the sale of the various tickets on the bus, tickets can also be purchased at several advance ticket sales points in the city area. The homepage www.stadtwerkehof.de provides easy access to the timetables of the individual lines as well as school transportation. A special service is the timetable information program for passengers: The desired routes, including line and real-time information, can be viewed directly via Google Maps or via the so-called Bavaria timetable. In addition, for some lines there is the offer of the call line bus (ALB): After a timely call, which must be made at least 30 minutes before the start of the trip on the day of travel, HofBus picks up passengers at the desired time with smaller buses and in this way ensures the transportation of customers even at times that would be too sparsely frequented for the regular frequency. The free registration hotline for the ALB is 0800-1234525, and a low-cost "JOBTicket" is available for working people.

While the HofBus fleet is currently still diesel-powered or runs on hybrid engines, there are plans to use electric buses in the near future. The Stadtwerke is not only committed to e-mobility in the area of public transport, but also promotes e-mobility for cars: the Stadtwerke maintains several car charging stations, with discounted conditions for HEW customers, as a special service in the city.

Bavaria timetable becomes MoBY

A helpful travel companion for the whole of Bavaria: public transport passengers can now use the free MoBY mobility app. The app knows all connections nationwide, whether by train, bus or other means of public transport. It also integrates rental bikes, scooters and other sharing services as well as on-demand services such as on-demand buses. Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter: "All connections at a glance and with one click: With MoBY, we are giving passengers throughout Bavaria convenient access to the wide range of public mobility services in the city and countryside via smartphone. We are using the possibilities of digitalization to meet the needs of citizens for smart, well-connected transport services in the best possible way. This is what mobility of the future looks like to me."

The mobility app is based on the state of Bavaria's tried-and-tested Bavarian timetable app and is operated by Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG). MoBY has access to real-time data for almost all buses and trains in Bavaria - from major cities to rural areas - and takes potential delays and cancellations into account. Passengers can use MoBY to pre-announce connection requests for connections with regional trains. They will then automatically receive a message on their cell phone as to whether the train can wait at the transfer station. If this is not possible, passengers are shown an alternative.

The app also knows around 300,000 train and bus stops throughout Germany and Austria. Real-time information for most public transport outside Bavaria and extensive information on barrier-free travel chains will be added gradually. MoBY's range of functions is constantly evolving and new digital services are being added.

In addition to travel planning, MoBY also offers ticket purchases. Currently, the Deutschlandticket and the Bavarian discount ticket for trainees, students and volunteers can be booked and paid for via the app. Further ticket offers will be added gradually. Sharing and on-demand services will also be bookable directly in the app in future. If several tickets are required for a journey, these can be purchased in a further expansion stage of MoBY with just one payment process.
