Saving energy is more topical than ever. The city of Hof has summarized helpful tips and tools as well as short and long-term measures for you. Stadtwerke Hof also provides valuable information with its "You ask, we answer" campaign.
Heat
In Germany, the building sector accounts for around 35 percent of energy consumption. Heating and hot water alone account for around 84 percent of energy consumption in residential buildings. Optimally adjusted heating systems and modern technology can therefore make a decisive contribution to saving energy and protecting the climate. This works best in a well-insulated building combined with the use of renewable energies.
Mobility
Every kilometer that is not covered by car is an active contribution to climate protection - and saves energy! Cycling is not only healthy, but also very climate-friendly. Local public transport is also a good alternative. If car journeys cannot be avoided, a lot of energy can still be saved with the right driving style and appropriate user behavior.
Electricity
There is immense potential for saving electricity in the home. All electrical appliances should be checked to see whether they really need to be used and for how long. Whether computers, televisions or music systems - switch them off completely when they are not in use, because standby mode also consumes electricity! The Federal Environment Agency puts the unnecessary costs of standby consumption at four billion euros a year across Germany! This amounts to around a tenth of your electricity bill. Electrical appliances and chargers should really be switched off after use or charging - so it's best to unplug them.
