Basically, the Bundestag election takes place every four years. The members of the German Bundestag are elected in a general, direct, free, equal and secret election according to a personalized proportional representation system. All Germans within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law who are at least 18 years old on election day and have been resident or ordinarily resident in Germany for at least three months and are not disqualified from voting as a result of a judge's decision are eligible to vote. Germans domiciled or resident outside Germany are also entitled to vote under certain conditions.
