World Children's Day 2025 in Wittelsbach Park
World Children's Day 2025 in Wittelsbacher Park - "Children's rights - a building block for democracy!"
"Children's rights - building blocks for democracy!" - is the motto for this year's World Children's Day. Unicef Germany and the German Children's Fund are emphasising how important the implementation of children's rights is for the future and as the foundation of democracy. Children and young people who know and live their rights understand better how democracy works and how they can actively participate. The two children's rights organisations are calling for the rights of the younger generation to be included in political decisions to a greater extent than in the past - for a sustainable and child-friendly country.
For many years now, the city of Hof has also been taking part in World Children's Day in cooperation with numerous organisations, initiatives, clubs and associations with a wide range of activities to stand up for children and their rights. This day will be celebrated in Hof on Sunday, 21 September 2025 between 12:00 and 18:00 around Wittelsbacher Park and, as in the previous year, will be organised by the municipal youth work of the city of Hof in cooperation with the Stadtjugendring Hof.
World Children's Day - background information
World Children's Day is a public holiday for children in many countries around the world and in many different cultures and is celebrated on different days, with the official date of the United Nations being 20 September. In September 1954, the United Nations recommended that its member states introduce a global day for children. They wanted to strengthen the commitment to children's rights, promote friendship among children and young people around the world and call on governments to support UNICEF's work worldwide. To give children, young people and adults more time to play, have fun and talk, World Children's Day is almost always celebrated on a Sunday in most places in Germany.
The grounds around Wittelsbacher Park are once again transformed into an imaginative world of adventure, where children and their families can tinker, romp, relax, climb, play and have lots of fun to their heart's content. The big children's and family festival starts at 12:00 noon.
The programme on the stage in front of the Sophienschule is put on by numerous children's and youth groups and presented by the 1st Hofer KG Narhalla Hof e. V.. The stage programme starts at 13:15 with a musical contribution from the Hof Symphony Orchestra's music school and at 13:30 World Children's Day will be officially opened by Mayor Eva Döhla. Throughout the afternoon, there will be activities on stage on the subject of children's rights, music, theatre, dance and sport.
Once again this year, around 60 clubs, organisations and initiatives will be taking part, offering something for every child and adult with their diverse activities and great commitment: Tree climbing, scooter kids mobile, stamp hunt, play mobile of the municipal youth work, face painting, children's fitness, international writing workshop, horse riding, book flea market, glitter tattoos, campfire and stick bread, Stone Age tent, bouncy castle, games, music, culinary delights - the list goes on and on. For the first time this year, the Christian Wolfrum Primary School, the foster children's service and the Department of Demography and Migration of the City of Hof, the Association of Christian Scouts, the Q Youth Centre Support Association, the "Grandmas and Grandpas against the Right" initiative and the Gambling Addiction Centre of Diakonie Hochfranken are taking part.
A football tournament, organised by the mobile youth work of the Stadtjugendring Hof, will start at 12:00 on the sports field in Alsenberger Straße.
In the library, visitors can enjoy a read-aloud theatre at 14:00.
A dance workshop starts at 15:00. Children can register for this at the stand next to the stage.
In Sophienstraße, the "Curiosity Express" invites visitors to experiment with technology with around 60 activities. The fire brigade, the police, the THW, the DLRG OV Oberkotzau and the Bavarian Red Cross offer interesting demonstrations and exciting hands-on activities.
As every year, numerous clubs, associations, institutions and communities are actively involved, demonstrating how child-friendly the town of Hof is. Their commitment demonstrates the wide range of facilities and offers, both voluntary and professional, that the city of Hof has at its disposal. The voluntary commitment is particularly worth emphasising: Without this great, voluntary commitment, World Children's Day could not be realised in the proven manner.
