Petit Paris - Next steps
The city of Hof had the building partially demolished in April 2024 for safety reasons. The CSU parliamentary group had called for the complete removal of the building in a motion. However, this is currently not legally possible, as the city may only carry out measures on this private property that are directly necessary to eliminate a hazard.
The building is in dire need of renovation. After the owner failed to rectify the defects in a timely manner despite repeated requests, the city of Hof had the necessary measures carried out to mitigate the danger. The upper floors were removed and all access points were closed off so that the sidewalk and road can be used again without restriction. There are currently no longer any safety-related hazards.
The city has repeatedly sought dialog with the owner over a long period of time, but the owner has not responded.
The costs incurred for the measures carried out were invoiced to the owner by means of a performance notice. The legal proceedings are still ongoing.
Once the court proceedings have been concluded, the initiation of foreclosure proceedings will be examined. If and to the extent that the legal requirements for such proceedings are then met and the outcome is at all promising, such proceedings can be initiated.
"This could lead to changes in the ownership structure. However, it is not foreseeable whether a change of ownership will result in any improvement at all. The City of Hof does not currently intend to purchase the building itself," says Mayor Eva Döhla. The owner has also ruled out selling the property by mutual agreement.
