Next steps in wild goose management
In order to counteract the challenges posed by the increasing goose population at Untreusee, a plan of measures has been drawn up in close consultation with all those involved, consisting of hunting, clutch treatment, feeding control and deterrence.
Extended hunting made possible
Applications have been submitted to suspend or shorten the closed seasons in order to specifically reduce the goose population. Area-specific approval has already been granted for the urban area. This will allow hunting over a longer period of time. Furthermore, a legal change is expected at Bavarian level, which will create additional scope for action.
There will be an information event for hunters in order to be able to carry out a technically sound and legally secure hunt. Hunting will only take place around the lake on areas behind it.
Clutch treatment in spring
Clutch treatment will also be an element of wild goose management. In spring, the wild goose management officer for the district of Lichtenfels, Martin Goller, will carry out a clutch treatment. "He is already supporting the entire process at the city of Hof and has a lot of experience," explains Bernd Bernhuber, Head of Civil Engineering and Green Spaces. There are also plans for municipal employees to attend a training course so that they can carry out any necessary clutch treatment themselves in future.
More consistent control of the feeding ban
Feeding the wild geese at Untreusee is generally prohibited. The local public order service will increase its presence at Untreusee and monitor compliance with the feeding ban more closely. Violations of the feeding ban will be punished more strictly in future.
Scaring off with fences on the shore
The existing fences for deterrence will be erected again this year. In order for these fences to be fully effective, they must be erected directly on the water lines.
