Michael Jostmeier exhibition extended

The exhibition in the foyer of the Freiheitshalle can be viewed until March 28, 2025. It will be closed from February 10 to 14, 2025.

The successful exhibition "Michael Jostmeier - Unterwegs 1976 - 2024" at the Freiheitshalle Hof will be extended by one month due to the high visitor response. Interested parties now have the opportunity to view the works of the renowned photographer until March 28, 2025.

"The exhibition is very popular, but was temporarily inaccessible due to major events in the foyers of the Freiheitshalle. We have therefore decided to extend it until the end of March," explains Peter Nürmberger, Head of the Cultural Office of the City of Hof. The exhibition was brought to Hof from the Kunsthaus Nürnberg at his invitation.

Due to an event, the exhibition will not be accessible from February 10 to 14, 2025. It will be open again during regular opening hours from 17 February. With the exhibition "Unterwegs 1976 - 2024", the city of Hof is presenting a showcase of the work of photographer Michael Jostmeier, who has been working with classic and digital techniques for decades.

His work moves between the poles of portrait photography, classic reportage and computer-generated images. As early as the 1980s, he was one of the pioneers in combining computer graphics and photography. In addition to his work as a photographer, he founded a design agency and later became a professor of photography at the Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg.

The exhibition focuses in particular on his travel photographs, pinhole camera experiments and documentations of political personalities. During his early years, Jostmeier accompanied the later Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia and Federal President Johannes Rau and documented his election campaign appearances. During this time, he came into photographic contact with important personalities such as Willy Brandt, Helmut Schmidt, Helmut Kohl and Franz Josef Strauß.

His works show impressive cityscapes, landscapes and snapshots from several decades. New York City, Paris, San Gimignano and Norwegian fjords are just some of his photographic locations. Particularly fascinating is his use of the pinhole camera, with which he captured iconic motifs such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center in timeless images.

The exhibition is complemented by a screen presentation showing photographs by Heinrich Jostmeier, the artist's father. His works provide a subjective insight into the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1990, a separate exhibition was dedicated to him at the Museum Folkwang Essen.
