Hof gourmet market in Mediterranean summer weather

Over 2,000 guests enjoy specialities on the Maxplatz in Hof

Last Saturday, Maxplatz became the region's culinary stage: in Mediterranean temperatures, over 2,000 guests flocked to the city centre throughout the day to celebrate the diversity of Hof as a place of enjoyment together with the people of Hof. Regional specialities, quality craftsmanship and genuine hospitality were on offer - a day that impressively demonstrated how deeply rooted regional food culture is in Hof.

Mayor Eva Döhla: "The Hof food market once again showed how lively and inviting our city is - when people sit together at a long table, talk to each other, laugh and taste what makes our home so special, it's more than just a market - it's a piece of lived joie de vivre."

The band "Die Gschrubbdn" set the musical tone in the morning and ensured a lively market atmosphere at the opening. The long table, which stretched across the centre of Maxplatz and invited visitors to linger, took centre stage. Over 300 Hof residents and guests sat together, savoured local delicacies, chatted to each other and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in the heart of the town.

In the afternoon, the focus was on conscious indulgence: indulgence ambassador Felix Bense guided interested parties through the diversity of flavours in Upper Franconia before the whisky tasting became a stylish highlight. Those who preferred a more creative approach found not only art but also inspiration in the accompanying exhibition with works by Ingrid Ammen, Reinhard Heidig and Carola Wölfl - this was also part of the "Experience enjoyment - taste regionality" concept.

The pleasant breeze and the waning summer heat of the past week created ideal conditions for a long day outdoors, which ended with a barbecue seminar organised by VHS Hofer Land. Barbecue professionals shared tips and tricks for barbecuing and once again provided culinary excitement in the evening.

The Hofer Genussmarkt clearly demonstrates what characterises the region: a rich variety of products, passionate craftsmanship and people who shape their homeland with heart and mind. The fact that the culture of enjoyment is deeply rooted in Hof is also demonstrated by the fact that Upper Franconia was one of the first regions to be included in the Bavarian State Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016 - with the aim of preserving and passing on the traditional variety of specialities.
