From mid-August: district heating network grows

Stadtwerke Hof: Four weeks of crossing work and full closure of the Sigmundsgraben from 18 August.

Stadtwerke Hof announces:

Stadtwerke Hof is pressing ahead with the expansion of its climate-friendly heat supply. The next construction phase in the Lessingstraße and Sigmundsgraben area will begin on 18 August 2025. This will extend the district heating route towards the city centre. The work will directly follow on from the work already underway in Unterkotzauer Weg.

As part of the project, a new pipeline will be laid across Lessingstrasse into Sigmundsgraben. For the necessary civil engineering work, both sides of Sigmundsgraben will be fully closed until probably the end of November. The start of construction in the junction area was deliberately scheduled for the holiday period when there is less traffic in order to minimise traffic restrictions, particularly during the first four-week construction phase.

Accessibility despite closure

During the entire construction period , the area will remain accessible for emergency vehicles as well as pedestrians and cyclists. The Saale cycle path will continue to be available without restriction. The urban renewal car park in Sigmundsgraben will also remain usable and can be accessed via Karolinenstraße using a special arrangement. Residents can also access their properties for loading and unloading.

Accompanying measures

Stadtwerke Hof is modernising the street lighting in the affected section at the same time as the cables are being laid. The outdated overvoltage lights will also be replaced as part of this work. In addition, demolition work will be carried out on the Sigmundsgraben 8-12 buildings on behalf of the hospital foundation.

Sustainable heat for Hof

District heating is an efficient, low-maintenance and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil-fuelled heating systems. It is generated centrally - usually from renewable or combined energy sources - and supplied directly to the connected buildings. With the expansion of the network in the Sigmundsgraben area, Stadtwerke Hof is making another important contribution to the local heating transition.

Note on restrictions

Stadtwerke Hof is aware of the restrictions for residents and private transport. In close coordination with the city of Hof and HofBus GmbH, diversions and alternative stops were planned at an early stage in order to minimise the impact as much as possible. We ask for your understanding for the temporary inconvenience.
