Free support for digital beginners from June 7
Digitalization in everyday life
The "digital together" project of the city of Hof starts on June 7 at 10 a.m. in the foyer of the VHS Hofer Land. From then on, digital beginners can get free help every second Wednesday from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. So: June 12 and 26, July 10 and 24, August 7 and 21, September 4 and 18.
The start date was deliberately set to coincide with the nationwide Digital Day. After all, digitalization is profoundly changing the way we obtain information, shop, learn, communicate with each other, seek medical advice or use public administration services.
With "digital together", all visitors to the counter can get free support with individual digital issues. Age, previous knowledge or cultural background are irrelevant. The information will range from very basic functions (how can I carry out updates myself or install apps?) to help with the use of municipal online services.
You ask - young people answer
The individual inquiries are answered by young people from the region, including trainees from the city of Hof who have been specially trained for this service. The city of Hof is one of 16 new municipalities that are setting up their own advice desks as part of the "digital together" project funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs.
The project goes well beyond conventional digital support measures for senior citizens: on the one hand, it is aimed at digital newcomers in general, while on the other, the newcomers are coached by young people with local roots, thereby contributing to intergenerational exchange and cohesion.
Goals of the project
In addition to promoting digital skills, "digital together" also pursues social goals. In particular, the media pedagogical training of young people offers an opportunity to motivate them for their future at school and at work and to strengthen their self-esteem.
The aim of "digital together" is to enable people with little or no digital skills to use everyday digital services at a total of 30 locations throughout Bavaria. In the current second round of applications, more than 40 municipalities submitted committed applications to take part. "Zusammen digital" is run by the "JFF - Institute for Media Education in Research and Practice". The Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs is funding the project.
