Exhibition opens: "A bungalow full of pictures"

This week, the Museum Bayerisches Vogtland opened the exhibition "A bungalow full of pictures: The Hauenstein Art Collection (1950-1990)" opened this week.

"Art for everyone, art by everyone!" Under this motto, the extensive private collection of the Hof art collector Ludwig Hauenstein (1925-2011) will be on display at the Museum Bayerisches Vogtland and the Reinhart-Cabinett in cooperation with the KulturKreis Hof e.V. until April 27, 2025.

Peter Nürmberger, head of the cultural department, welcomed the numerous guests in the museum foyer. He spoke with the 1st Chairman of the KulturKreis Hof e.V. Stefan Pohl and his wife Dorit about the Hof art scene, the Hauensteins and the exhibited artists.

Curator and academic volunteer Miriam Rautenberg shared personal stories with the audience in conversation with Eva Geelen, the collector's daughter. "I was really pleased with the title of the exhibition, 'A bungalow full of pictures', because it's not just about a single picture, but about collecting in this bungalow," said the art collector's daughter. The exhibition brings back memories for Geelen: "It shows an overall concept, the living out of a hobby. The opening of the exhibition with the reunion of the paintings and so many acquaintances is like a shower, a real shower of memories."

The exhibition presents over 60 works by Hofer and regional artists, mainly from the second half of the 20th century. In addition to local celebrities, there are also nationally important artists such as Johann Christian Reinhart, Wilhelm Kohlhoff and Armin Sandig, who were at the forefront of the artistic development of their time in various techniques, styles and motifs. But lesser-known artists and even amateurs - some of whom were motivated by the amateur painter Ludwig Hauenstein himself - are also part of this individually compiled private collection. The exhibition is made possible by Ludwig Hauenstein's daughter, who grew up in the "picture bungalow" together with her sister and has made the numerous loans available. Thanks to her, the works of art can be embedded in her father's personal environment: his passionate collecting activities, his family, his artist friends, the lively Hof art scene and, of course, the family bungalow, whose walls were covered from top to bottom with works of art.

The exhibition can be visited during the usual opening hours of the museum and the Reinhart-Cabinett.

A guided tour by the curators will take place on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 2 pm.

Those interested in art will have the next opportunity to attend an exhibition opening on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 7:30 pm. The Department of Culture and the Czech artist František Steker invite you to the foyer of the Festsaal of the Freiheitshalle Hof.
