Brotherhood of stonemasons and bricklayers celebrates 575th anniversary

On Monday, the Steinhauer- und Maurerbruderschaft Hof und Umgebung visited Hof Town Hall.

Mayor Eva Döhla, Mayor Angela Bier, Vice President of the Chamber of Crafts for Upper Franconia Christian Herpich, Head of the Cultural Office Peter Nürmberger and Florian Götz, Economic Development, welcomed the craftsmen in front of the town hall to the accompaniment of music by Bernd Günther. The Steinhauer- und Maurerbruderschaft Hof und Umgebung is celebrating its 575th anniversary this year.

There was a brief report on the past year and a look into the future. "When I started, we were over twenty masons. We decorated the inn, opened the guild chest and talked about traditions. A parade through the town was followed by dancing. We celebrated for a whole week, accompanied by a large brass band. Today, unfortunately, we don't have the next generation, but the flag should come to the town hall every year as long as it is still possible," said former journeyman Olaf Jarsetz. He and his two colleagues uphold the tradition of "Bricklayers' Day" year after year. Anyone who can produce a corresponding journeyman's certificate in one of these trades can join the Brotherhood of Stonemasons and Bricklayers.

Mayor Eva Döhla was delighted with the visit and emphasized the importance of continuing traditions: "Today, together with Hofer Schlappentag, is a special day. It is firmly linked to craftsmanship and our city and can only be found here in this form. We are proud of that."
