OXG and the city of Hof focus on fiber optic partnership

The city of Hof and the infrastructure company OXG have agreed on a forward-looking partnership for fiber optic expansion in the region.

Around 15,000 households will benefit from an ultra-fast and stable fibre-optic infrastructure, which will be implemented completely self-sufficiently and at no cost to residents.

Mayor Eva Döhla: "I am grateful for this important prospect for our city. With the fiber optic expansion, we are enabling the further expansion of this urgently needed technology. OXG's commitment is realizing an economically viable solution that will strengthen our city in the long term."

Markus Metzger, Head of Municipal Management at OXG, emphasizes: "The letter of intent is an important cornerstone for our partnership-based cooperation. I am delighted that we can offer the residents of Hof a high-performance infrastructure - free of charge. Our fiber optic network stands for flexibility, as it is open and free for the choice of provider." This partnership will lead Hof into a digital future and equip it for the challenges of the 21st century. The fiber optic expansion is to be completed in the coming years, meaning that the city and its residents will benefit from a sustainable and energy-efficient infrastructure.

The OXG fiber optic expansion will bring fast and reliable Internet to the region. Whether video conferencing in the home office, 4K streaming or 3D online gaming - fiber optic technology will take all of this to a new level. The city of Hof is thus paving the way for digital living and working in an increasingly networked world.

OXG stands for "Open Access Fiber Optics" and is building an open fiber optic network that allows households to freely choose their Internet provider. Initially, Vodafone will be responsible for marketing the connections, with other providers to follow. The self-economic expansion will not incur any costs for owners or residents. The new fiber optic connections already enable speeds of one Gbit/s and more, and every house and apartment will receive a direct connection.

OXG is a joint venture between Vodafone and Altice that is driving forward the expansion of one of the largest fiber optic networks in Germany. The aim is to supply seven million households and create a nationwide broadband infrastructure that supports the digital transformation in Germany.

Hofer residents can order a fiber optic connection from November 2024 at the following link: www.oxg.de/ausbaugebiete/hof/
