New hall of residence for students in Schützenstraße

A new project is taking shape on the edge of the former Hoftex site in Schützenstraße. Riedel Bau AG from Schweinfurt has launched an architectural competition for the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken together with the architectural firm Kunnert from Weiden

Exhibition in the foyer of the technical town hall until September 27, 2024

The competition brief was to design a student residence with up to 130 apartments on the specified plot at Schützenstraße 10 in Hof. Riedel Bau has already acquired the plot.

Dr. Stephan Gleim, Building Director of the City of Hof: "The City of Hof is delighted that 130 students will soon have a home near the city center with the new hall of residence. We would like to thank the Studierendenwerk for its willingness to hold this competition in order to ensure the building's architectural value."

The jury meeting took place in Bayreuth at the beginning of August. A 13-strong panel of specialist and expert judges evaluated the 11 designs submitted in the Europe-wide competition in a closed session. Four prize winners were selected:

1st prize: H2M Architekten + Stadtplaner GmbH, Kulmbach

2nd prize: Gerber Architekten GmbH, Dortmund

3rd prize: Drei Architekten Konsek Streule Vogel Partnerschaft mbB, Stuttgart

4th prize: Hetterich Architekten BDA, Würzburg

The competition was preceded by a Europe-wide invitation to tender, combined with the purchase of a plot of land, in which Riedel Bau AG from Lower Franconia came out on top. Riedel Bau is responsible for project development, obtaining building rights and, of course, the turnkey construction of the new residential home in Hof.

Matthias Gutgesell, Head of Real Estate, Riedel Bau AG: "We are delighted to be able to implement the model that has already been successfully practised elsewhere in Hof together with the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken and the city of Hof!"

The entire process is carried out in regular and close coordination with the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken. The project in Hof is already the second of its kind. Riedel Bau and Studierendenwerk Oberfranken recently celebrated the inauguration of a new hall of residence in Bayreuth.

Josef Tost, Managing Director of Studierendenwerk Oberfranken: "Another great hall of residence project that we are able to realize together with Riedel Bau AG."

The building application for the project in Hof is currently being prepared. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025, with completion planned for August 2026. All competition entries will be on display in the foyer of the Technical Town Hall in Hof until September 27, 2024. They can be viewed there during the usual opening hours of the town hall.
