Mayor and Cultural Office welcome city libraries

Public libraries in Bavaria meet twice a year for a joint professional exchange, the so-called Erfa meeting.

On March 7, the ladies and gentlemen from Marktredwitz, Naila, Neustadt b. Coburg, Wunsiedel, Münchberg, Rehau and Nuremberg met at the Hof public library. The Erfa groups are fixed groups of libraries that analyze the host library according to predefined criteria. The "view from outside" often has an enriching effect and enables positive changes. Erfa stands for exchange of experience.

After Mayor Eva Döhla had given a brief introduction to the history of the Hofer Bahnhofsviertel and the city library, the guests praised the light-flooded rooms and the varied program of events offered by the Hofer Stadtbücherei. The quality of the library's support from the cultural department was particularly well received. "The Mayor's reception and the accompaniment by Peter Nürmberger, Head of the Cultural Office, clearly demonstrate the importance of the Hof library for the people of Hof. Especially in Hof, the location of the city library in the middle of the station district is particularly valuable in view of the cultural diversity of the people," commented library employee Katharina Burkhardt.

Visitors provided food for thought on all topics. The division of books and media in general was frequently questioned. For example, the novel section or the music media could be narrowed down and brought together to create space for current topics or modern lending terminals. The idea of a small café to increase the quality of the visit was also raised. However, as the Hof public library is currently unable to operate at full staffing levels, some of the proposed changes will have to be postponed. Nevertheless, the suggestions were gratefully accepted and some of them are already being implemented, for example the thinning out of various subject areas.
