KliX³ - Paths to climate-neutral living in Hof
Citizens of Hof are on board
Reduce driving, watch your speed, save water, buy less packaging and drink tap water. This shows that the people of Hof are not only proud of their water, but also have climate-conscious ideas for savingCO2. Last Tuesday, almost 20 citizens between the ages of 12 and 70 came together at the VHS Hofer Land to present their favorite climate tip.
This collection of material formed the basis for a presentation by the initiative "Klix³ - Wege zum klimaneutralen Leben", sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the National Climate Protection Initiative. Speaker Luzia Walsch introduced a long-term scientific study by the Federal Environment Agency and the University of Freiburg on thecarbon footprint of private households. Over the course of several years, research has been carried out into how climate-neutral living can be achieved, which climate protection measures are typically implemented and which obstacles and successes can be seen in everyday practice.
Hof's third mayor Sebastian Auer, initiator and idea provider: "Even small steps are immensely important when it comes to your owncarbon footprint, but also that of friends and family. It's also about setting a good example and showing your neighbors that environmentally conscious action doesn't have to go hand in hand with big sacrifices. Hof is one of ten pilot municipalities in KliX³
As one of ten pilot municipalities in Germany, the city of Hof is participating in this study and determines theCO2 footprint of the participants at municipal level once a year using the Federal Environment Agency'sCO2 calculator. In this way, Hof contributes to gaining knowledge in the field of climate protection and supports research. The almost 20 participants are now drawing up their own personal climate plan for more climate protection in everyday life. The "KliX³-Toolbox" presented accompanies the participants in a playful way on their way to a climate-neutral life. Instead of juggling many loose ends, users can use this online toolbox to create a personal climate plan in six modules.
Participants have also been invited to take part in a three-part online workshop. In each module, one aspect of the triad of "Create a balance sheet", "Reduce your footprint" and "Expand your handprint" is examined. The focus of these workshops in a fixed group is the exchange of ideas: because climate protection is teamwork. What's more, climate protection should be fun.
What KliX³ means - conceptual basis
The content of KliX³ is based on the "Triad for the Climate" developed by the "3 fürs Klima" association with the following elements:
- Creating aCO2 balance sheet with the Federal Environment Agency's calculator,
- Reducing the footprint with small and large measures in everyday life and
- Increasing the handprint with commitment, climate-friendly compensation and financial investments for climate protection.
KliX³ concentrates on filtering out the next possible, relevant small and large steps. KliX³ focuses on "big points" with a major leverage effect and teaches serenity, especially when it comes to "peanuts" that have comparatively little impact on the climate. The triad provides climate-committed people with a tried-and-tested tool for combining fun and enjoyment with effectiveness in climate protection. With a playful approach and the opportunity to exchange ideas, it is fun to apply the scientifically based suggestions to your own life - from "just do it" tips to ambitious measures.
About the nationwide KliX³ project
For the first time, KliX³ has set up a nationwideCO2 calculator panel in which participants can balance theirCO2 emissions annually and thus keep track of their climate protection successes over time. KliX³ stands for "Climate-neutral living in city X". KliX³ was initiated by the association "3 fürs Klima"(www.3fuersklima.de) and KlimAktiv(www.klimaktiv.de). "3 fürs Klima" is a non-profit association with the aim of creating and spreading awareness and knowledge about effective individual action options for climate protection in accordance with the Paris goal and has attracted nationwide attention and saved over 20,000 tons ofCO2 in 2021 with the climate bet(www.dieklimawette.de). KlimAktiv gemeinnützige Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Klimaschutzes mbH develops software forCO2 balancing for companies, municipalities and other organizations and enables active climate protection through awareness of one's ownCO2 balance.
