Hofer Schlappenbier among the best beers in the world

The Scherdel brewery announces:
What the Oscars are to the film world, the Grammys to the music industry or the Michelin stars to top gastronomy, the European Beer Star is to beer lovers. The Hofer Scherdel Brewery has been awarded the coveted trophy for the second time in a row. In the prestigious competition, the Schlappenbier received the Gold Award in the German Style Heller Bock category. This officially makes the Hof specialty one of the best beers in the world.
"This is a huge success that we could never have dreamed of," says a delighted Kurt Unverdorben, authorized signatory of the Scherdel brewery. "The taste and quality of our Schlappenbier, which has long been appreciated by Hofer and many beer lovers, has now been confirmed for the second time in a row by the international jury of beer experts in this prestigious competition. This makes our team proud and happy at the same time."
For 20 years now, a 150-strong jury of master brewers, beer sommeliers, trade journalists and beer industry experts has selected the best beers every year. In a three-stage process, they taste the beer specialties in each category. They evaluate smell, appearance and taste, compare the favorites with each other, discuss quality and enjoyment and finally decide on the gold, silver or bronze awards. This year, 2,360 beers from 50 countries took part in the comparison.
"Winning an award at the European Beer Star shows that you are at the top of the league when it comes to beer quality worldwide," explains Stefan Stang from the organizing association Private Brauereien. The European Beer Star award stands for unadulterated, characterful and high-quality beers. The Scherdel brewery also received the glass trophy and the corresponding seal at a gala as part of the BrauBeviale trade fair on November 27, 2024 at the Exhibition Center Nuremberg.
"The European Beer Star in Gold is an accolade for us brewers," commented the Head Brewmaster at Scherdel, Sascha Greßmann. "It is the reward for our daily efforts to brew a delicious beer according to a tried and tested recipe, using traditional methods and with a great deal of passion."
The verdict of the international experts at the European Beer Star confirms this: Visually, the Schlappenbier impresses with a fine-pored, velvety head. In terms of taste, it is the fine, not too sweet and not too strong malt aromas and the subtle hint of hops that make the palatable Schlappenbier a delightful experience.
