Hof has been flying around the world for 50 years
Around 300 aircraft in the Lufthansa fleet are named after German cities or federal states, including an Airbus A320 christened "Hof". The "Hof" flies through Europe as an ambassador for the city and the Lufthansa brand, connecting people, cultures and economies. This summer, the "Hof" is celebrating a special anniversary, as the city and Lufthansa have had an official naming sponsorship since July 11, 1974. The current "Hof", an Airbus A320neo with the registration D-AINU, is already the third aircraft to proudly carry the city's name around the world. Since 2019, it has already traveled to 125 different destinations and carried 874,373 passengers safely to their destination on 7,124 flights.
The first aircraft to bear the name "Hof" was a Boeing 727-230, which was christened on July 11, 1974. It was in service until it was taken out of service in 1990. After a brief transitional phase, during which a Douglas DC-10-30 bore the name, a Boeing 737-330 took over this honorable task on 17 December 1990. It flew from Frankfurt am Main to Paris, Nice and Bilbao, among other destinations, before completing its last flight in April 2014. The fourth generation, the Airbus A320neo, has been flying since 2019.
