General ruling on the control of American foulbrood

Restricted area established

The city of Hof issued a general order today to prevent the spread of the bee disease. In an area around plot number 308 in Hof-Moschendorf, American foulbrood - a contagious bee disease - was detected in a bee colony.

The city of Hof has therefore set up a restricted area with a radius of at least one kilometer. Within this area, no dead bees, honeycombs, honeycomb parts, honeycomb waste, honey, wax, food supplies, bee dwellings or used beekeeping equipment may be moved or taken out of the area. No bee colonies or bees may be brought into the area.

These measures come into force on May 27, 2025 and apply immediately to prevent the spread of the disease. The city of Hof appeals to all beekeepers in the area to follow the requirements of the general order in order to protect the health of the bee colonies and stop the spread of American foulbrood.
