Gealan triathlon relocated once to Tauperlitz

The 41st Gealan triathlon and the 25th school and youth triathlon, which take place on July 13 and 14, have been moved from the Untreusee in Hof to the Tauperlitzer See.

This decision was made necessary by a combination of several circumstances.

Mayor Eva Döhla: "The relocation to Tauperlitz is a practical solution that is not far away, and it is only for this year. Next year, the construction work on Stelzenhofstraße at Untreusee will be completed, and then it will be possible to run the route there again without any problems. This solution was also found at short notice thanks to the staff at our sports office. It is remarkable how well the volunteers in Hof are networked in order to accomplish such a feat. I would like to thank everyone involved for their understanding and support and look forward to an exciting competition."

Two of the five regional league competitions will be held in Hof, which represents a major logistical challenge for the volunteers of the Interessengemeinschaft für Langstreckenlauf Hof e.V. (IfL Hof). The routes have to be defined and the races coordinated. The board of the association emphasizes that the postponement is not only due to a construction site, bus traffic or the residents and tradespeople in particular, but to the sum of the circumstances, especially on Saturday. A closed cycle route is needed for the children and young people. On Sunday, it would have been possible to hold the race with some rerouting of the bike course. However, the association emphasizes that separating the two events is logistically impossible for volunteers.

Michaela Franke, board member of IfL Hof: "It wasn't an easy decision, but it doesn't help anyone to point the finger of blame. Everyone involved - the city of Hof, HofBus and local residents and businesses - were interested in finding a solution. It is clear to us that this is only a one-off relocation."

The triathlon is very important for the sports city of Hof as the oldest voluntarily organized triathlon in Germany. Due to the large catchment area of the participants, the event at Untreusee is not only known in the Hof region, but also nationwide and is firmly established in the sports calendar.
