František Steker: Time, space and color

From October 7 to November 24, 2024, the works of Czech artist František Steker will be on display in the foyer of the Freiheitshalle.

The city of Hof invites you to a new art exhibition presenting the work of the renowned Czech artist František Steker. His works will be on display in the foyer of the Freiheitshalle from October 7 to November 24, 2024. The artist, known for his conceptual works, uses various techniques that go beyond the classic boundaries of paper and pencil. Time, space and color are central elements of his work, which enters into a dialogue with the exhibition space and the visitors.

With this exhibition, the Cultural Office of the City of Hof is continuing its long-standing engagement with Czech artists. In her welcoming address, Mayor Angela Bier paid tribute to Steker's life's work: "We see here a life's work that is inspired by German, Czech and international influences. With this exhibition, the Hofer Kulturamt is making a further contribution to the commemorative weeks marking 35 years of the opening of the border."

The exhibition includes works from the 1960s to the present day, including works created especially for the foyer that relate to the specific spatial conditions of the Freiheitshalle. František Steker, born in 1949 in Hřebečná in the Ore Mountains, studied visual communication in Krefeld and later at the University of Applied Arts "UMPRUM" in Prague. His works are represented in collections worldwide and stand for a multi-layered artistic dialog between Czech and international art.

The opening of the exhibition, which was attended by the artist himself, was enriched by the musical accompaniment of Milan Kraijc and Petra Brabencová from Karlovy Vary. In his speech, the collector and gallery owner Hans-Joachim Goller, a long-time friend of the artist, emphasized the close collaboration between him and Steker since the early 1990s. A comprehensive bilingual publication (Czech/German) is available to accompany the exhibition. Admission to the exhibition is free. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.
