City of Hof raises peace flag in future

At the most recent city council meeting, it was decided that in future, the city of Hof should show its solidarity by flying the peace flag, a white dove on a blue background.

The city of Hof would like to use it to call for openness, tolerance and peaceful coexistence. The motif was created in 1974 by Mika Launis for a poster campaign by the Finnish Peace Committee. Among other things, the symbol was displayed at the signing of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe in Helsinki in 1975.

According to the Bavarian flagging regulations of the Federal Government and the Free State of Bavaria, general flagging can be ordered by various state authorities on special occasions. Foreign flags may only be flown on state office buildings with the approval of the State Chancellery.

Until December 4, 2023, there was no official flag order from the Minister President and the government of Upper Franconia had not hoisted the Israel flag. Nevertheless, on the recommendation of the Bavarian anti-Semitism commissioner, the city of Hof hoisted the Israel flag at the town hall for a week to express its shock at the terrorist attack. The decision was also made in the context of the city's friendship with Kiryat Motzkin.
