Bridge Mittlerer Anger
The government of Upper Franconia reports:
Substantial financial support for the city of Hof: The government of Upper Franconia has approved funding totalling 2.38 million euros for the replacement construction of the "Mittlerer Anger" bridge over the Saale river in Saxony.
New bridge for better traffic conditions
The last structural inspection in 2018 revealed extensive damage to the existing bridge, which was around 100 years old. As a result, the bridge, which has a low load-bearing capacity, had to be closed to traffic; a new construction is necessary.
The city of Hof is therefore replacing the structure with a modern bridge that meets current requirements. This will have a carriageway width of 7.50 metres and significantly improve traffic conditions. Construction work began at the end of August.
Total costs and funding amount
The estimated total costs amount to around 3.51 million euros, of which around 2.97 million euros are eligible for funding. With the approved grant of 2.38 million euros, the Free State of Bavaria is covering 80 per cent of these costs. This is based on the Bavarian Financial Equalisation Act (Art. 13 c BayFAG). The funding rate takes into account both the financial capacity of the city of Hof and the importance of the project. The funding comes from the state budget of the Free State of Bavaria and is provided by the Bavarian State Parliament.
