Flag on the occasion of the liberation of the city of Hof by the US Army
US Army troops moved into the town and took command. Military resistance by the last remaining German units was out of the question, as there were no more weapons, which is why Hof was lucky enough to remain largely intact apart from a few bridges blown up by the defenders.
The American military government came to Hof as a ruler, but not as an oppressor. Even if it was not immediately obvious to everyone and a period of economic hardship set in at the end of the war, American rule was an act of liberation that ultimately led to democracy and prosperity.
The city of Hof would like to commemorate the liberation 80 years ago by flying the flag on 15.04.2025.
