B 2: Renewal of Jahnstraße begins on March 24

Jahnstraße will be fully closed from Berliner Platz to the junction with Friedrich-Friesen-Straße.

The Bayreuth State Building Authority announces:

On Monday, March 24, 2025, construction work will begin on the renewal of Jahnstraße (Bundesstraße 2) in Hof. The measure includes the section between Ernst-Reuter-Straße and Friedrich-Friesen-Straße (Jahnbrücke). After Stadtwerke Hof had already laid the water pipe and parts of the underground cabling last year, the road surface is now being renewed. The existing road damage shows that the road pavement is no longer designed for the current volume of traffic, which underlines the need for this comprehensive renewal.

Scope of the construction work

In the course of the project, the parking lanes and sidewalks will also be renewed on behalf of the city of Hof. Barrier-free guidance systems will be added at the roadway crossings and a new cycle path will be laid on both sides of the sidewalk. On this occasion, work will also be carried out on numerous supply and disposal lines on behalf of Stadtwerke Hof. In addition, electricity and fiber optic cables will be laid and traffic lights and street lighting will be renewed. The construction period is approximately five months. Unfortunately, the work can only be carried out with a full road closure, including the sidewalks and parking spaces. The two existing bus stops with bus shelters will be dismantled during the construction period and the bus stops will not be served. The regular bus service will be rerouted.

Traffic routing

From 24.03.2025, Jahnstraße, including the sidewalks and parking spaces, will be fully closed from Berliner Platz to the junction with Friedrich-Friesen-Straße. In order to enable access to Fröbelstraße, a temporary lane will be set up from Jahnstraße to Fröbelstraße from the east (Jahnbrücke). In a later construction phase, the access road will be changed and Fröbelstraße will be accessible from Ernst-Reuter-Straße. Traffic to and from Fröbelstraße will be regulated by a traffic light system. Pedestrian traffic will be guided through the construction site area with restrictions. The following detour apply to traffic:

  • Inwards the city: The detour will be via Ernst-Reuter-Straße - Kulmbacher Straße - Schützenstraße - Hochstraße and further via the inner-city roads.
  • Out of town: The detour out of town will be in a southerly direction via Marienstraße - Hans-Böckler-Straße onto Ernst-Reuter-Straße. In a westerly direction, the detour is via Marienstraße - Schützenstraße - Kulmbacher Straße onto Ernst-Reuter-Straße.

Costs and execution

The contractor for the construction work following a public tender is the company VSTR Rodewisch. The total costs of the project amount to approx. 1,200,000 euros. All road users are requested to follow the signposted detour. The Bayreuth State Building Authority asks all road users and residents to bear with the unavoidable traffic obstructions that will occur during the construction period.
