New life in old walls: From May 3 to 19, the Renovation Days 2024 will showcase successful examples and provide valuable practical tips.

Diverse program

Anyone interested in renovating an old building should mark a few dates in their calendar in red. Because this year's renovation days in the region will once again show what gems can be created if you only dare to tackle such a project.

The renovation days offer an interesting and varied program consisting of lectures and visits to successful examples. They are organized in cooperation with the vacancy and regional management of the districts of Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge, Hof and Bayreuth as well as the independent cities of Hof and Bayreuth. This year, the series of events will take place from May 3 to May 19, 2024. They promote the topic of building renovation, which combines many important aspects: you create a personal and distinctive living atmosphere for yourself, your family or your company, you help to save space and vacant buildings are filled with life again, which enhances towns and communities and the entire region.

Opportunities for refurbishment

Wunsiedl District Administrator Peter Berek: "We are noticing that more and more people are interested in such renovations. As it is also in our own best interest that vacant buildings are upgraded and filled with life, we are happy to take on the role of service provider and provide encouragement. I believe it is important to take away the fear of renovating old buildings. Interested parties can exchange experiences, ask questions and benefit from their practical knowledge in a personal conversation."

Dr. Oliver Bär, District Administrator of the district of Hof: "Renovating old buildings is worthwhile in many respects: as a rule, renovation is more climate-friendly and resource-saving than a new build, town centers remain lively and vacancies are avoided. Refurbishment pays off, especially for owners of older buildings. Together with our experts, we would like to provide you with comprehensive information on the topic of refurbishment, give you an insight into existing refurbishment projects in our region and provide you with assistance in implementing your project." The Mayor of Hof, Eva Döhla, adds: "Refurbishments offer great opportunities in terms of urban development and sustainability. This is because raw materials are reused and land is conserved. This is exactly what we want to support in our city."

Florian Wiedemann, District Administrator of Bayreuth: "The topic of redevelopment is hugely important because we in the region want to use our vacant land responsibly. The refurbishment days give us the opportunity to draw attention to existing buildings that are absolutely worth renovating. I am very pleased that Hof, Wunsiedel and Bayreuth are pulling together here and highlighting the importance of existing properties." The Mayor of Bayreuth, Thomas Ebersberger, also emphasizes this: "Our aim is to motivate people to renovate existing buildings. In this way, older buildings can be given a new lease of life and attractive living space can be created. In Bayreuth, we are offering three interesting best-practice examples for viewing this year: The revival of the old island pub, the extension of a typical detached house in the Saas district and the successful refurbishment of a sandstone house in the middle of the city."

The aim of the renovation days is also to encourage sustainable building. The aim is to reduce land consumption, but also to improve the quality of life in the municipalities. They are sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.
