New at the public library: English e-books and German audio books
Sorted by subject area, it's a wonderful place to browse: classic literature, fiction for young people, fantasy and much more is waiting to be discovered. Collections for children and teens make a targeted search possible. There are currently almost 7,000 titles available. The list is constantly being added to. The Hof public library has now also made the offer available to its readers. In addition to the approximately 70,000 titles in the Franconian on-lending service, English e-books have now been added. At the same time, the manual stock of around 120,000 books, DVDs, CDs, games and magazines will continue to be maintained.
OverDrive has been the world's leading provider of digital reading platforms for libraries for almost 20 years. E-books, audio books, magazines and streaming media services are provided for libraries and schools around the world, which in turn offer their services to millions of end users. The motto is: Reading leads to more education.
This additional service is now available to readers of the Hof public library. "The new offer is included in the annual fee for our readers, just like the online offer from Franken-Onleihe. Even though we are convinced by printed books, we are not ignoring modern media," explains Peter Nürmberger, head of the cultural department, who introduced the new service together with his colleagues at the library. For him, it is also a further step in terms of digital services.
How does OverDrive work?
All readers can access the service via the link https://franken.overdrive.com. The link is also available on the city library's homepage at www.stadtbuecherei-hof.de. Simply log in with your library card number and date of birth. The media are then available for browsing. The Libby app is the easiest way to register. The desired media can be borrowed for 7, 14 or 21 days with an individual loan period. Only audio books can be borrowed for a maximum of 14 days. The eBooks and eAudios are downloaded to the respective device for the duration of the loan and can also be listened to or read offline.
Many other practical functions are also available: Adjusting the font size and font type for e-books, adjusting the reading speed for audio books, searching for other titles in a series or by an author, setting bookmarks and markers, looking up terms for English-language e-books.

A library card is available from the Hof public library during regular opening hours. Adults pay 30 €. A discount of €23 is granted for residents of Hof. Children and young people can read, listen to or watch (DVDs) free of charge. Further discounts are available for certain groups.
