Painter Hannsjürgen Lommer hands over part of his estate to the city of Hof

"Partial self-portrait with a view of Maxplatz" now hangs in the technical town hall.

Hannsjürgen Lommer, the freelance artist born in Naila in 1938, is well known to the city of Hof. His work "Flight and expulsion ... where to?" was presented to the Museum Bayerisches Vogtland by architect Winfried Thies in 2011. The artist has now donated a total of 15 of his works to the city's art collection.

One of them comes from the special exhibition in the Reinhart Cabinet that ended at the beginning of March entitled "The new town of Hof after the great city fire - how artists see it" and now hangs in the technical town hall. The work was created in 1966 and is entitled: "Partial self-portrait with a view of Maxplatz".

Museum director Magdalena Bayreuther: "The partial estate of Hannsjürgen Lommer from all his diverse creative periods is a welcome addition to the municipal art collection, which, with its approximately 6,000 works, depicts artists and motifs from Hof and the region."

The 15 works include eight drawings and seven paintings. These are portraits of local personalities such as Karl Bedal and Dr. Georg von Waldenfels as well as landscape views and abstract works. Lommer's work consists of a wide range of painterly expressions. The artist himself describes his current works as narrative expressionism.
