... a typical product for a second breakfast in the late morning, a hearty or quickly prepared lunch or a snack in the evening.
This is a delicacy that is basically made of fresh liver; in this way the Hofer Leberkäs’ is different from the Bavarian one, which does not, as is generally known, contain liver. The Leberkäs’ has been sold in Hofer butcher shops for decades – raw or freshly-baked in an angular form or slightly rounded in a caul fat.
You can buy Leberkäs’ raw or baked at the butcher shop – cured or grey. Fresh Leberkäs’ meat is baked in well-larded metallic molds or in caul fat. This way the skin becomes deliciously crispy, looks appetizing and tastes wonderful. In most butcher shops you can get a hot slice of Leberkäs’ on a fresh bread roll any time. But you can also buy it as a whole and bake it at home.
Hofer Leberkäse is sold raw so you can bake it yourself or freshly out of the oven. A homemade potato salad, bread rolls or bread goes well with it. You can also eat it cold, in thin slices as cold meat with gherkins or in thick slices in a bread roll to go. Or you eat it with “music” that is with a stock of vinegar, oil and onions. There’s always a reason to eat a crispy Leberkäs. That’s why you can buy it in Hof year-round.
