Twin town relationships Hof-Plauen
After many years of failing in its efforts to start a twin town relationship with Plauen – back then part of the DDR - Hof finally succeeded in doing so in 1987. The consent was given by the back then highest political level between Bonn and East-Berlin.

Until the borders were opened in November 1989 and the “Wende” started, two-way exchanges were only possible within the annual arrangement. Since then people from Plauen and Hof have been able to communicate without restrictions. Cultural and sport clubs but also families and single persons have long established permanent friendships.

Even if now there is no border anymore, the friendship continues. For a couple of years now, the two towns have been connected by a hiking trail, which is frequently and gladly used by many hikers from both towns. The twin towns organized festivities including an extensive series of events in 2009 – 2010 on occasion of “20 years without the border” or “20 years of German reunification”.

Another highlight took place in 2012: there was a huge ceremony for the 25th anniversary of this extraordinary German-German relationship that included a historic fashion show in the town center of Plauen; exactly where it had once started.
