In the center of the historic Theresienstein is the botanical garden – a real gem. The town bought a 1.88 ha big terrain and created a botanical garden during the years of 1929 to 1931.
An Alps forest, a heath garden, a bed of iris and a rosarium of the highest quality
The botanical garden revitalizes its visitors with an ever new blaze of color and an abundance of blossoms; even though it was created in 1912 for the natural history lessons in Hofer schools – but see for yourselves what became of it.
The garden can be seen as divided into 2 parts: the geometrically designed rosarium with the herbs’ headquarter and the more landscaped green area with an alpinum, a lily pond, a shadowy area and an extensive bed of magnificent perennials.
Everyone who loves silence will enjoy the tranquility and the abundance of blossoms in this huge garden. While listening to the burble of the fountain, you will inevitably start daydreaming.
The fragrant medicinal herbs garden shows a considerable number of plants that are used in medical science and popular medicine. A special bed is dedicated to the medicine of Hildegard von Bingen.
The highlight of the garden season is the rose festival every June – also because of its legendary rose punch.
