Second pétanque town twinning tournament in Cheb
On Saturday, July 13, representatives of the twin cities of Hof and Cheb met in the "Krajinka", on the banks of the Eger, to play the second pétanque friendship tournament. A total of 16 teams of two took part in the tournament, which was opened by Cheb's mayor Ing. Jan Vrba, 2nd deputy mayor Pavel Pagáč and Hof city councillor Dr. Klaus Schrader. The weather was kind to all players from the early hours of the morning. In the end, the winners were mixed Czech-German teams. Two teams from the Hof club and one from the Czech guests prevailed in the first official pétanque friendly match on the court of the Freie Turnerschaft Hof in 2023.
Of course, excellent pétanque was played and the convivial get-together with good food and drink was not forgotten. The tournament ended in the evening with the presentation of prizes to the winners and souvenir gifts from the city of Cheb to all participants. The sporting event could take place thanks to a grant from the city of Cheb and was excellently organized by the Pétanque Club Egrensis (1st Czech-German Pétanque Club). The Na Poště restaurant and the Zigi-cleaning company also supported the cross-border tournament as sponsors.

The game of pétanque
"Pétanque" (competitive name), or "boules" (recreational name), has become increasingly popular in recent years. Two teams try to throw a certain number of balls as close as possible to a small wooden target ball (the pig) that has been thrown out beforehand. Pétanque is a game that can be played by people of all ages. The rules are simple and easy to understand. In the game types "Triplette", "Doublette" or "Tête-à-Tête", fixed teams compete against each other. The Swiss system was used for the friendship tournament. A predetermined number of rounds are played. The participants are reshuffled after each round.
