Neighborhood management for Johann-Weiß-Straße

Neighborhood management pursues a network-oriented approach that activates the population and strengthens networking within the neighborhood.

New impetus

The city of Hof is planning to set up a neighborhood management team in the Johann-Weiß-Straße area. "The aim is to promote the development of the neighborhood through specific measures and to achieve long-term stability," says Mayor Eva Döhla. The Environment and Planning Committee paved the way with a resolution at its most recent meeting. It is to be an independent person who acts in close coordination with urban planning. With the neighborhood management, the city is creating a central platform for the further development of the neighborhood. The planned measures and close cooperation with residents are intended to sustainably improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and provide new impetus for coexistence.

Network-oriented approach

The neighborhood management pursues a network-oriented approach that bundles public and private resources, activates and involves the population and strengthens networking within the neighborhood. The work of the neighborhood management can be divided into three phases:

  • Start-up phase: The focus is on publicizing the neighbourhood management as a point of contact, building trust and initial low-threshold measures such as planting campaigns, festivals or cultural events with the aim of creating encounters.
  • Implementation phase: In this phase, the neighborhood management assumes a central role as mediator, initiator and strategist. It develops long-term partnerships and measures to strengthen the neighborhood and promote equal opportunities for residents.
  • Consolidation phase: Finally, an exit strategy is developed in which the neighborhood management acts as a supporter in order to create stable structures that enable the neighborhood to develop independently.

Establishment of a neighborhood office

It is planned to transfer the activities to a social agency already operating in the urban area. An annual budget of 50,000 euros will cover the personnel costs for a social education worker position with 30 hours per week as well as office equipment.

Funding and support

The measure can be financed via the federal and state urban development funding program "Social Cohesion". It is expected that 80% of the eligible costs will be funded. The city's own contribution amounts to 10,000 euros per year. The corresponding funding application will be submitted to the government of Upper Franconia.
