Alter Bahnhof / Old Station

Alter Bahnhof
Passenger building of the old station

As early as 1848 Hof got its first railway station just outside the new town. It was designed by Friedrich Bürklein, architect to the Bavarian court. The passenger building, built like a three-aisled basilica, still remains, although it is now shorter than the original 105 metres.

It is situated near the main post office, between Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and Hallplatz and is doubtless one of the very few still intact “monuments” from the beginnings of the railway age in Bavaria.
